HOUSE FOR THREE FAMILIES AT RANHEIM
Designed by: Audun Hellemo
For the assignment "Building in landscape" we were asked to design a house for three different given families, forming our own program to correspond to their needs. The house is designed for a single mother with 3 year old child, an elderly single woman and a family with two teenagers. In my concept the families share multiple common functions such as entry, vertical communication, workshop, gallery and wash room. In addition each apartment has huge glass walls facing the great common room, the gallery, to where the public activities in the private zone take place. When activities take place in the common room, it breathes life into the apartments - and when activities take place in the apartments, it breathes life into the common room. In that way, the borders between public and private are reduced and give the opportunity for the unexpected to happen.

Karin: "In the end nothing happens in the big room."
