ORGANIC HOUSING
Designed by: Audun Hellemo
We were asked to design a housing complex for at least 15 inhabitants, based on the housing scheme we had worked out in the townplanning assignment. I chose the houses in the forest, which were decided to be lamells of 60-70m length, and up to 10m broad. I started to look at different ways to build close to nature and ended up with three approaches; the hut in the trees, the glassbox and the organic form. I analyzed different projects based upon organic forms, and decided to combine some qualities from all three approaches. It was important that the whole stucture does not give the impression of being an endless building, and thus is open between the different appartments. The plans are simple, and based upon the idea that those rooms you spend most time in, are those most organically shaped. Organic shapes offer a unique spatial quality and light conditions hardly ever experienced by modern man. About time to change that!
